Petco and petsmart are big stores, I don't think they buy their rats from breeders. |: My rat's buddy i'll try to get from a breeder. If my rat see's how another socialized rat interacts with me will she feel more comfortable with me?
I didn’t mean the good breeders, like good ratteries, but the bad ones. Where I come from pet stores get their livestock from people who breed way to much with the poor things and only want to make money out of them. It’s really sad. :(
When a rat has a buddy they have way less stress, are happier and get because of those two facts they don’t get sick that easy. So it probably would make her more comfortable with you as well as in general, yes. :)
She had a buddy before but every time she would try to eat the other one would attack her so I had to return her.
I figure that Petco is a pet shop, so they probably get their animals from people who breed to get a profit out of it and have other rats for sale in a while? At least, that’s the case in pet shops here in my country.
Why don’t you introduce her to another rat? I think a neutral or humble one would be the best match for your rat.
How do I make my rat love me? I got her from petco on feb. 2nd because I couldn't find any rat rescues or breeders around me. I let her crawl around on me for a while every night, she even crawls in my shirt. She only sits still on me when she cleans herself. What else can I do? D;
Every rat appreciates it if you get him/her a buddy. :)
Female rats are less cuddly in general because they’re rather active, mine like to crawl around in my clothes more than sitting still as well. It’s normal, really.
So I've been saving up to buy myself pet rats come this summer; I want to get everything set up before I make the purchase, and would like to be able to utterly spoil my new babies. I've got the toys, giant DIY Grotto bookcase cage, food, the works. The questions I am coming to you with are these: is there a rat basic medical kit, or at least separate items, that I can buy for them, and what do you think would make the best burrowing bedding?
Great to hear you prepare yourself so well before your rats come live with you! :) I think ecobed is a great type of bedding. It’s made of carton and is absorbent and completely dust-free. If your rats use their toilet then you can use fleece as well. (Also a good alternative if your rats are getting older.)
Some things you could put in you medical kit are a snuggle safe (keeps sick rats warm), nail scissors, a duna (like the ferplast duna multi) and a scale to check if your rat is losing weight.
Hullo! I have a request of you and your lovely ratty followers! Today I rescued a very poorly rat baby who has severe respiratory problems. Fortunately I have a lot of experience in that area so he's on a low dosage of antibiotics, but I am worried he might not make it. Simply put, I can't think of a name for the little guy, and the idea of him having no name when he's so poorly is so painful :( Does anyone have any suggestions for a little baby blue boy in need of snuggles? Thankeeeee x
